Fun Day for Mothers with Cancer and Their Families (06/08)

"Fun" isn't part of the usual lexicon of young mothers suffering from cancer.  But that's just what dozens of young women had, together with their families, during a special "Nature Trip" organized by Ezer Mizion.

The first stop was a water park in the picturesque Hefer Valley, where children and parents cavorted happily as if they had no concerns in the world.  After a pleasant hike through Kfar Witkin's Pecan Forest, they were brought by tractor to a stream, where they had the rare chance of feeding deer.

The day, which included seeing a computerized barn and arts and crafts activities, concluded with a festive meal at Netanya's Gaucho restaurant.

The special fun day for mothers with cancer, which Ezer Mizion organizes several times a year to alleviate the tremendous stress these women are under in their daily struggle for their lives, provided the opportunity for them and their families to "get away from it all," and just enjoy being together in the heart of nature.

It also enabled them to forget, if only temporarily, painful treatments and unpleasant side effects, and facilitated bonding among the mothers, all of whom are undergoing similar experiences. "It is healing to meeting others who know just what I am going through," notes M., one of the participants.  "We can remove all the masks and focus on getting well."

Ezer Mizion recently organized a day of pampering for sick mothers at the Sheraton City Tower in Ramat Gan, and has planned a trip to London this summer for a group of 20 young mothers with cancer.
